I think Tolle’s in a different category, too. He doesn’t try to spin a new self-help or health trend every week. What I’ve seen and read from him seems like he’s just explaining his philosophy. Things like being present and not clinging to desired outcomes aren’t even original but I like the way he presents his topics.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Tolle to Oz, Phil and Byrne. He’s relatively low-profile and not money/fame hungry or actively destructive to the people who seek him out for help.

I was in a really bad place when the secret got big so I gave it a try because it had that patina of pseudo science to if: luckily I snapped out of it. I’m really glad I didn’t meet a scientologist that year or I’d probably be in the sea org right now.
