But so much anime is steeped in Asian culture that you are missing huge chunks of the story if you are ignorant about the history and culture. A lot of times, unless you familiarize yourself with the culture, the stories don’t even make any sense.

That’s the exact wrong take-away from this. Being a white or Japanese man sure does insulate the hell out of you.

This not only seems to be a pattern of negative narratives surrounding other Asians, but also women. It looks like it’s predominantly women who act in such a manner in his work. That’s not just a racism problem, but also a sexism problem.
