Can't tell you why but I can tell you it's not specific to OBDII dongles: the Contour helmet cameras have bluetooth and work with Android phones but (get this) require a separate module to work with iPhones. It's an Apple quirk.

I'll take an unconventional view: overpowered is in proportion to weak points in the system. If a car has a clutch that can't take the heat, too-skinny/slippery tires, or anything else that limits how much power you can lay down, the car is overpowered.
This is a market that is long past due for a major disruption.
