That’s one of my favourite facepalms about the US- a congress that’s got an approval rating of around 19% has something like 90% re- election of incumbents. That low an approval should realistically mean a near- complete turnover of elected officials every time.

I think a lot of people are used to the idea of privilege as being like a VIP room and such: clearly marked and identified, and the people who have the privilege are told that it is. special. The idea that it could be their baseline existence is hard to fathom.
