My guess is to improve the range of RPM that the power is delivered. You can have a high torque low rpm or lower torque/high rpm. A 1k ft-lb could mean it has plenty of pull at higher speeds. Torque quickly drops once out the ideal spot. Just because EVs don’t have transmissions, doesn’t mean they couldn’t be improved…
