Also, this is measuring paid attendance rather than butts-in-seats. Slowly but surely the business accounts will quit buying because they can’t convince even their smallest clients to go to a game. Lack of day games during the week, no double-headers, pricey food and drink all add up to having fewer butts-in-seats.

This sort of thing used to make me irrationally mad, but these days it just makes me sad more than anything. As it has in so many other critical junctions in history, baseball is merely a bellwether of society at large. What is America these days, if not a gaudy strip mall/food court where rich people/companies are

This isn’t a baseball problem, which you hint at with the Atlanta aside. Going to arenas these days is so unappealing that I’ve mostly decided to never do it again. Even without kids, a babysitter may cost $100, plus the 2 to 3 hundred two adults can easily spend. Football is the worst, but also the most appealing to

“What’s obvious is that Bell misread his market. “

the only way you can say he shielded himself from a bigger guarantee is if you believe he couldnt get atleast a 4 year deal w/ $21 million guaranteed if he signed the franchise tag and then tore his ACL.

Are they rebuilding, though? This guy traded for an well paid veteran guard last week, remember?

So how long until he too changes his mind and goes back to Minnesota?

If he does, then holding out will look like a really smart move.

Yeah. Shame about the country though.

Long Island - where strip malls, Sweet 16 parties, white BMWs, and Islander fans all try to help you forget that you’re actually on Long Island.

If a rival company offered any of these people the same job they are doing now but for $0.02/hr more, they would be gone so fast they’d get a bill for cleaning up the skidmarks.

He broke his arm blocking a shot, after he scored a goal and assisted another.

In fairness, it was also premised on the fact that making kids go through a year of unpaid NCAA basketball let them come into the league with pre-built hype while also giving teams more information about those players before the draft.

Keep in mind that Kyrie was a number 1 pick after playing a grand total of 11 games for Duke. If the talent is undeniable, as it is with Zion, then him not returning to action for Duke, and possibly hurting himself again won’t be held against him.

I feel bad for Zion’s knee. But this is tremendous content.

Wilbur Ross was kind to chime in that, in the event of a shutdown, players could just get payday loans.  And maybe get a paper route and mow lawns.

Eh, Simmons’s take is mild, understandable and completely in bounds.

“...Kyrie/Davis/Durant would even rather play for the goddamn Knicks”

I hadn’t thought about it from that perspective. I was thinking that his goal was to drag the NFL for how it mistreated him. When I think about this from a compensation for harm standpoint it makes much more sense. Thanks.

I know it ain’t my fight, but I’m honestly a little disappointed by this. From an outside perspective it looks like Kaepernick decided to take some cash over fighting for his principles. I’m sure it’s likely much more nuanced than that, but with the NDA in place he’ll never get the chance to explain his reasoning
