....for some reason I find myself mildly shocked that a Montero could cost ~$37k over 20 years ago.

Not to steal the old Top Gear joke, but this “next generation” Porsche looks pretty much the same as this generation...and last generation...and so on.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Porsches are, have been, and will be beautiful cars, but just sort of funny to take notice of the tiny differences.

I see a number of people who very obviously bought “Service Animal” vests online to take their completely untrained fur babies everywhere. Really this should be punished the same as a fake handicap parking placard (or if such a law is on the books, it should be enforced).

With companies putting out 150+ mile range electric bikes now, don’t think it would be too difficult to get the 75-100 miles a modern ATV gets to the tank.

Not to make everything about EVs these days, but surprised they aren’t trying for an electric version. Seems like having instant torque in one of these would make it that much more fun.

My normal driving here in LA could get me around 260 miles in my Niro (at least hypothetically as I rarely deplete it below 20%). Based on my experience, I think Kia/Hyundai (or their partners) came up with some top shelf battery management, even if it doesn’t have the highest top-line DC charging rate.

Said it in earlier articles about the MX-30 and I will say it again. I have no problems with 130 mile range EVs. I think they should come in all shapes, sizes and ranges. I do have a problem with a 130 mile EV with nothing else about it that stands out whatsoever being sold for the practically same price as vehicles

Meh, I’ll stick with an EV. At least until I can get a go-kart powered by my own sense of self satisfaction.

Design head - “I want a seamless transition from autonomous to semi-autonomous driving operation.”

Distracted designer - “Car with no seams. Got it!”

Price that just happens to hit $29,999 after incentives or a lease deal that undercuts comparables by almost half (plus essentially unlimited mileage)? Yup, seems perfectly legit .

The ones near me are online, but not particularly cost effective compared to other local options.

I feel like the “alternative transportation can’t work because I live in a 40 sq. mile suburban sprawl” crowd present in some of these comments are kinda missing the main point of this piece...

The problem isn’t with it being a smaller battery pack crossover, the problem is it being a vehicle with half the range of a Hyundai Kona/Kia Niro EV charging just about the exact same price.
I fully believe there should be more EV options out there, including low range city cars, but those low range city cars need to

Not to mention the incentive happens at the point of sale (which is exactly when an incentive should happen to actually, you know, incentivize).

Battery shortages and stronger demand in EU countries.

In my experience, the modes make all the difference in the world for the Niro. In Eco and Normal modes, it keeps it’s torque under control unless you force it (how much pedal depends on which mode you’re in). In Sport mode, it wants to throw all those 291lbs down within a thought.

If you get hit by a postal truck today, the postal service has liability if they are at fault. The fact of a human in the vehicle or not doesn’t change that.

I’m sure the first time people got their milk delivered by a motor vehicle, curiosity and general douche-baggery caused a few issues. While I’m sure they will be much publicized in this day and age, it’ll be exceptions rather than the norm and fade as people get used to them.

To each their own. I like the looks of it, including the front grill (although I much prefer the darker “gravity gray” I got over the silver). As for the price, I was making the point that comparing it to a $40k ICE vehicle is not apples to apples. Additionally, you’re not getting $10k back for buying one of those.

It’s not a $40k car. It’s a $26k car with over $12k in batteries inside of it (the majority of that consumers will get back through government incentives). In that lens, it’s very well equipped and looks great.
