I’m pretty sure Crunchyroll was airing only illegal fansubs in the very beginning. It’s been like 15 years so I don’t quite remember the details but I was surprised to hear of their agreements with various companies to simulcast etc. The stuff came much later. I had long written them off as “will get sued to oblivion

Yeah but a big reason was that they kept getting copyright struck by toei, they actually lost their entire channel for a little while.

The Game Boy / Pocket / Color line was insanely successful, if I remember correctly selling somewhere in the ballpark of nearly 100 million units total. Being handheld consoles marketed primarily at children as well as just being 20-30 years old, tons of those no longer function (I refurbish consoles as a hobby and

Yeah I’m kind of shocked this wasn’t how it was to begin with. Video doesn’t adhere to your country’s laws? Fine, it doesn’t get to be viewed from there. That's really a no-brainer decision, the hard part really is having the fair use laws from all countries that would enforce this.

Heck, some official studios like ADV were founded on fansubbing.

To be fair, anime gained traction because of renegades making it accessible. Fansubbers, etc.

Piracy.

“But with fair use so ill-respected in so many territories, and YouTube creators with no control over where their content will be shared once they upload there’s certainly a long way to go.”

I mean, fuck, there’s another case of toei help kill something cool

You just save and skip, and plan which characters you’re going to pull for.

calm down, man. It’s a Game Boy, not the remains of the Library of Alexandria.

LOL at “Sony Is Done”.

Except the guy he paid $3.5million to IS IN THE F*CKING VIDEO?!

I watched it. Like the article says, he had members (and the owner) of the Basketball Card Exchange in the room with him, going over their reasons why they verified why the sealed box was legit.

Wait, BCE’s defense was, “He didn’t ask us if they were Pokemon cards. He asked us if they were in good condition”? That’s some Twilight Zone genie shit.

A lot of people might not like the guy but this is still a really shitty thing to do to someone.

the simple answer is just get a Nintendo DS emulator and play it on your computer. the complicated answer is you need to hunt down and purchase a ROM cartridge that you can put an SD card into. something like the R4.

I’m not the most hack-savvy DS player, but I figure the easiest way is with a flash cart. I’ve got one called Acekard 2i which has a microSD card built in; you literally just drop a ROM onto it and go.

Why don’t you clarify that statement with the rest of the facts? It was a total of 9000 people surveyed in several countries. Many of the home owners are in rural areas where the price of a house is in the low thousands. Many more of them are bought by their family and not themselves, primarily because of the need to

Word. I believe in fair use, but to build a company based on using other people’s work is rather a stretch.
