@avclub-ea098057cb0d1379deaf8c1cf4a1fe3b:disqus : This is a false talking point. Florida Election Law DID NOT ALLOW you to request a statewide recount. You HAD to request it county by county, which was very, very expensive. The Gore campaign could not financially afford to challenge the results of all 56 counties, so

I had a crush on Flannery Culp. I would totally have dated her.

Yeah, but Homer *tries* to be nice to Grimes, it's just that everything goes wrong, which is what makes the episode work so well. (Homer invites Grimes over for a really nice dinner, but Grimes doesn't realize the dinner is for him). And then Grimes tries to make Homer look like an idiot, and fails, and then goes

Rob Cordry did make a great Republican douchebag on the Daily Show, however. They did a thing about Bush claiming to not be responsible for the "Mission Accomplished" sign.
"Jon, he has no control over the navy!"
"Uh, Rob, he has complete control over the navy."
"Sure… the REGULAR navy. But not the Elite Sign-Hanging

[SPOILERS CONTINUE] The hospital would do all that if the patients were rich. "Shutter Island" is directly inspired by "Gracefully Insane," which details some of the unusual methods doctors used to treat patients. http://www.amazon.com/Grace…

@avclub-77d8b92f7e4ad09337545800164f0737:disqus : "A Simple Plan" and "Spider-Man 2" are both brilliant Raimi movies. "A Simple Plan" was one of the best films of 1998, a very strong year, and "Spider-Man 2" is one of the best comic book movies outside of Nolan's Dark Knight.

In fairness to Sorkin on this one, Lowe (inexplicably) wanted off the show because it was an ensemble show, not the Rob Lowe show—and Lowe was way more a Sorkin projection than Whitford (modeled on Rahm Emanuel) was. (C.f. the episode where Lowe smiles proudly and says "I wrote that.")

@avclub-64d89ce858675fc3069631850a9e9e84:disqus : I want you to write a Darin Morgan-esque spec of "American Horror Story." I would actually pay money just to read that.

@avclub-620982009915db2a0b4a49e224bad30c:disqus: Uh, I think you may be the guy who inspired "Inspector Spacetime." Harmon mentioned in a recent interview that there was one thing they threw into season 3 specifically to please one internet commenter. I, uh, I think that's you. I'm looking for the interview right now.

"Pet Sematary" is, simply put, the most terrifying novel in existence. Nothing else comes close except King's own "The Shining." I was thought the movie was underrated, simply because it does the books straight-up, and doesn't shy away from any of the three awful events, which shall not be revealed here.

For Forster fans—which there seem to be a lot of—y'all need to see LAKEBOAT. Based on a very early David Mamet play—one where he's in observant and sympathetic mode (I know, it weirded me out too), Forster has an amazing five-minute-long monologue towards the end. Brilliant, well-made film that almost nobody saw.

@avclub-1e850f6bef0bc36ca1f64e95ff1cbd2e:disqus : Scott freaking Frank. Wrote the adaptations for Get Shorty and Out of Sight. Elmore Leonard (who'd had a LOT of his novels botched in adaptations) respected Frank so much he actually name checks him in Be Cool, with some guy saying " Scotty'll  figure out how to end

Though there are a *few* Twilight Zone episodes w/ happy endings, which makes them all the more awesome… the season one ep "A World of His Own" w/ the playwright whose characters come to life made me smile, particularly given its nice meta-twist at the end. (It's probably the only TZ ep in which a character gets the

Can I just say how much I love the fact that you deliver insightful arguments while NEVER BREAKING CHARACTER?!

I still want to see "Community" do an actual, bona-fide Cape episode. CLIPS ARE NOT ENOUGH.

Thank you, Craig J. Clark. My fundamental problem with Oleanna is that it pretends to be a complicated, political, "issue" play but is really a two-dimensional melodrama in which the GOOD MAN has to destroy the BAD WOMAN. It's like David Mamet, in the throes of a divorce, sat down and said, "I'm going to write a play

I hope "Rango" wins Best Animated. It's the best animated homage to Chinatown ever. Uniquely weird, and Gore Verbinski's best film.

G. Gavin Gunhold—can I say how awesome your name is? I didn't know there were other Gordon Korman fans out there. But that man can WRITE. Son of Interflux, A Semester in the Life of a Garbage Bag, Losing Joe's Place… all-around awesome.

Oh dear God no, not DISQUS! You didn't switch to DISQUS… you did. You switched to DISQUS.
