Definitely regional.  Here in California, if it is offered in 2WD that is what you will see most of on the lot -- goes for all types of vehicles, Trucks, Explorers, Cars.  Unless you’re looking at Subarus or Audis that only come in quattro (Q series), you’re probably going to find much more 2WD than AWD or 4WD.
