Registering a car in MI costs a bare minimum of $45/year. That’s for something built before 1984 which weighs under 3k lbs. Newer or heavier cars cost more. The state also requires that all registered vehicles have basic no-fault insurance.

I told my local Honda dealer that same thing in 2015 because I heard the rumor that was coming. They (a) didn’t know about that rumor and (b) never called me. As a direct result, I no longer drive a Honda.
