Actually, I could read it fine, but it was mostly the older folks who couldn't make out the text, but you're right, after a while it got annoying. The Windows option to increase font sizes didn't work for everything. I'm sure Windows 8 would have fixed this easily.

The point of the keyboard/mouse support? It would just be another control option, like Kinect or Wii motion. Maybe this would allow competitive cross platform PC-console play and a host of PC games that wouldn't normally be ported to consoles like Blizzard games. Also web browsing would be less painful.
