Good call. It's literally just footage of your childhood pet's burial. They personalize it for everyone.

Go, Xiang Xiaohan. Gotta love a 19-year-old with bravery.
Homosexuality has no place in Chinese culture? That's a political statement rather than historical on, though I guess that depends on which historical texts you decide to selectively read or ignore.
All of you are missing the point of the complaints. The discourse here is that Asian-Americans are so frequently the target of this kind of passive-aggressive satire. If Colbert had put on blackfaced and spoke in ebonics, he would have been fired, and the idiots at Deadspin definitely would not have written an article…
White privilege, ignorance and racism at it's best ladies and gentlemen all neatly packaged in a condescending demeaning passive aggressive Jezebel article. Congrats.
Wow. Section by section, my mind is blown.
I don't like the assumption within this article that Colbert is the one being attacked and that Suey Park doesn't understand satire.
Go tell Vincent Chin. Oh wait you can't because he was murdered for being ABC.
Yay for whitesplainin! White people(especially liberal types) have got this whole race thing all figured out...
Thank you. Finally some sanity and intelligence on this issue. The problem most people have is that Colbert chose to target a politically weak group like Asians instead of a powerful one like blacks, which would have been more effective as satire as you said. People who can't get that through their heads are idiots.
I understand what you were trying to do but it's still wrong to use it and it's still evident many readers think it's still ok to call Asians funny names and mock them.
Change "Colbert" to "Chappell" and you pretty much summed up the fun times I had listening to white guys who wanted for re-enact Chappell's "Meet the Niggers" sketch to me for some strange reason. They didn't even say the exact lines from the skit, just paraphrased. Poorly. So...yeah, been there...
It's difficult for me to defend the headline of the article unless you are taking Park's side. If you think she is missing the point...you are totally missing the point in trying to make your point that way.
What I faced today: Ching-Chong Ding-Dong is ok because its a satire. Lets say to asian guy's face. You dont like it? But its satire? I guess you good only math. But its ok, I heard Colbert said it. Lighten up its a joke!
This post and this title is so absurd and hurtful I don't even know where to begin. That it was co-authored by a white guy and, I guess, a Korean - American, says levels about how uninformed and un-nuanced both your understanding of racism in media works and how wannabe elegant hipsters cover their racism under the…
One can get the joke and still have valid objection to Colbert's satirical use of anti-Asian slurs. The point is that he chose to use mocking "imitation" of Asian language because that is not seen by our society as being as offensive as other forms of racism. Colbert never would have satirically mocked blacks because…
The whole thing - the initial "joke," the tweet, the lack of awareness before and afterwards - should not have happened. It's not okay. In order to truly understand you have to ask : why did Colbert/his writers go after Asians as their joke? Because it's still marginally acceptable, perhaps more so than any other…
I'm a ASIAN AMERICAN (gook). I found it funny. Things are funny. I punched my friend in the face for saying it, then we had a good laugh. I only did it because it was an excuse to punch him in the schnoz. He wasn't mad and neither was I. Also, everything is mad stupid. Zero tolerance never works fairly. That girl is…
YOOOOOOU GUUUUUUUYYYYYSSSSS!!!!!
Sick of all the tone-deaf-policing around here.
