Designers can highlight and bring innovation to the table with their design. A Hummer design is not going to bring aerodynamics or incredible gas miliage to the table, nor will a Smart Car bring spacious seating for 7. Local Motors (from what I gather) brings a project from the drawing board to the road.

I believe Local Motors is going to be a great platform for vehicles like I design. The opposite of planned obsolescence, people are tired of paying 10's of thousands of dollars for a vehicle that is expensive to maintain, begins to depreciate the minute you drive off the lot and falls apart in 5 years and is obsolete…
