Assume whatever will make you happy. If you’re interested in verifiable information though, I just finished, a few days ago, an argument where I said this trade is absolutely worth it to get Griner out actually, and was called an idiot for my troubles.

It’s not a choice that you would have made, but it is a choice. She looked at the $400,000 she was earning and decided that it wasn’t enough for her. No blame here, but the NBA is irrelevant to that decision. Pros playing overseas is not limited to the WBNA, or women’s sports in general. NBA players generally don’t,

The phrasing is that the *relative* amount is driving Griner’s choices: the sentence is literally she went to Russia because she earns so much less. It isn’t true.

“Griner, meanwhile, was playing in Russia during the WNBA off-season because the league’s players earn so much less money than their male counterparts”

It wouldn’t be “art” if it had such plebeian things as “hooks” and “melody.

“While people today frequently dance mindlessly...”

Ok.

Again, perfectly happy to agree to anything your imagination can conjure up about me if that’ll end this.

“Really? Just seems like you put little value on the lives of non-Americans compared to Americans...”

I suspect you’re right about Whelan.

Yes, the time-honored American tradition of selling arms to despicable people.

“you’re saying the system doesn’t lock away people for public safety and then saying it does.”

Your link says he was prosecuted for a sting operation in which he believed he was selling weapons to FARC. I’m not seeing anything about a conspiracy to kill Americans, which was not really FARC’s primary goal. Not sure what I’m missing there. He was tried in the US because the US designated FARC a terrorist

As far as I have seen, the sting was to sell arms to FARC, not a conspiracy to kill US citizens.

The reason to not let a hypothetical mass murderer out is because doing so wouldn’t get Griner and Whelan back to their families. Bout is not in prison for mass murder, and releasing him does get Griner and Whelan back to their families.

The statement they referred to was made weeks ago. Jezebel’s just mentioning it now and not, for some reason, clarifying when it happened. Assuming Jezebel’s is screwing up or twisting something when you read something like that is always the safest approach here.

Two people unjustly detained against a guy who has already served half his sentence is a good deal. Griner’s job is irrelevant to her humanity, as are the hypothetical future crimes one can imagine for Bout.

“Read your rights” is an Americanism. Many countries require that inmates be informed of their rights at some point, but not always at the point of arrest. That she wasn’t informed of them is not legally meaningful in the way it is here. Please find a writer for these stories that is aware that the fact that it is

Dear god. Whatever.

She’s clearly not, because the “you” being addressed is the people watching her video. There’s no reference to reputation at all.
