It was the 80s. It was all about squiggles and triangles and patterns and colorful lines for some utterly incomprehensible reason.

Excellent, Ace & Gary will finally get their car into production!!!
2 things here: 1)were the surfaces not prepared/cleaned, or epoxy mixed appropriately? That 3M 8115 stuff is seriously strong bonding epoxy, it should easily perform as good as an actual steel-steel weld when it comes to shearing & push/pull torque forces. 2) how much did the fire affect the evidence left behind? It…
Shortened to Covfefe.
pretty sure that’s a Saturn
Yeah, it’s kinda like comparing a mechanical watch to a cheap digital watch. The digital watch is the better timekeeper, but the mechanical watch is more interesting.
You don’t buy a 30-year old Porsche for straight-line performance, you buy it for the analog driving feel— the wonderful exhaust note, the super direct steering, the lovely manual shifter, etc. Sure you’ll have to throw money at it to fix various age-related problems, but it’s worth it. And if you DIY the repair work…
I’d enjoy that 30 year old Porsche, even if it was just sitting there, broken. Looks better than a modern Toyota Camry.
Now we can finally do this for real
Did someone say “wheelman”?
I have the utmost respect for motorcyclists. I couldn’t bring myself to drive one. Something about having my skin as the only form of protection against the maniacs on the road that puts me off bikes... :(
Time to move on to motorcycles. Even with all the electro-goodies it’s still very much you, a throttle, brakes and a clutch. Riding is basically everything driving used to be in cars that had character.
I don’t like this era of cars. You’re no longer part of the driving experience. You basically navigate a computer down the road. Hell, even the “safety rating” has revised their star rating if a vehicle doesn’t come with a list of standard computer nannies.
Golden age of cheap used cars. Cars have gotten so good in the last 15 years that there are really no “bad” cars and haven’t been for the last decade or so. Right now, you can get a camry or a focus on craigslist with less than 150k on it and fully expect to ride it to 200k all for less than $3000.
Very sad. Lots of indecisive people want their vehicles to be the best possible compromise. Safe, quick-ish, lots of toys, relatively fuel efficient, space for carrying stuff, and ground clearance. The frustrating thing is, all that compromising makes them so damn bland to drive, and great at nothing.
Which no one will look upon fondly. Most people in 10 years won’t remember even the name of the crossover they had bought.
This isn’t far off from what I was thinking.. with the internet and forums to get all the information you need at your fingertips, you can V8 swap basically anything with little to no prior knowledge.. you don’t need Uncle Rick with his 30 years of automotive background to assist you. All you need is a smartphone,…
The golden age of tall front wheel drive cars.
The Pyrite (“fool’s gold”) Age
January 2004, I had just started an internship at Ford World Headquarters. My first day, there was a financials announcement and then a media event in the auditorium. For those sorts of events, they’d always put out a couple of the newest or upcoming vehicles for the suits in WHQ to look at and at least pretend like…
