Because sometimes the tree of liberty needs to be watered with the blood of whoever the fuck happens to be around.

He was not a draft dodger. He was a conscientious objector who directly fought for the right to refuse to participate in a war he objected to and won. There are a lot of aspects of Ali’s life that show that “nobody is perfect” but his refusal to participate in a pointless war is not one of them.

And what is Representative Martin Daniel’s military background? What branch did he serve in, where, and for how long?

as would be all members of the US house of representatives.

This was my email to him....

Tempted to write a script that continously emails him Ali quotes.

Send him back this as a prime example of a ‘draft dodger’ (which is far different from Ali being an outspoken conscientious objector, imo)

Even with the factual and contextual errors, I don’t quite understand the point of his second tweet. Apparently he feels that it was wrong to feel elation about Scalia’s death, so because of that it is somehow okay to attack Ali’s memory when he dies?

I’ll just leave this here to hopefully shine a light on ‘Ali as an open conscientious-objector vs someone with an actual cloudy-character’ regarding the Vietnam draft.

So I emailed him a half hour ago or so. He actually replied to me “From his iphone” with “Blah” I guess that’s his articulate response to someone calling him out for being a pathetic bastard.

His greatest achievement in life was not some dumbass boxing title. It was his belief that war is fucking idiotic and he was willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING because of his ideals. A truly great man.

I would not classify him as a “Draft Dodger” he did not leave the country, he did not attempt to claim a medical deferment for a minor malady(Bone spurs, etc), nor attempt to get a cushy posting in the Guard.

Martin Daniel is a skilled bullshitter but failure to to enlist in the US military when he was of age is black cloud on his character and really means he supports al qaeda

Umm, aren’t these the “religious liberty” folks? Ali exercised his & didn’t fight in an unjust war.

Mitt Romney moved to France to avoid military service, but said “I wish we had never pulled out of Iraq.”

Actual draft dodgers, though, have his approval:

If Ali had gone with the draft, followed as silently as a sheep, would he still have kept the title? Would he even come back alive to reclaim it?
Daniel isn’t just missing the point, he’s refusing to admit that a man of Islamic faith was putting the U.S. on blast for pointless wars.

Taking shots at someone who just died is also a black cloud on your character. As is the passive aggressive use of Cassius Clay instead of Muhammad Ali. Get fucked, Rep Daniel.

Dear Representative Daniel,

Not wanting to go to a god forsaken jungle to kill people that did nothing to you or your country is immoral? So fucking sorry Rep. Asshole but that’s the exact opposite of a “black cloud” on his character.
