Haha, yeah. I always gotta wait just to see if the reviews are right or if they’re just hype. Unless it’s a sure thing in my mind and I know that dev and I know all the angles I have to look at it, then I’m waiting.

Nice post! Yeah that’s my experience too. I have some old PC games that I’d love if they worked properly because they were better experiences than the console versions, such as WipeOut XL. I even liked the PC version soundtrack better. But man is that game a PITA to get running properly now! I mean, it’s ridiculous.

Yeah I don’t buy day one, but I just never want to have the problem. Sometimes I really want to play a game day one, like a new Souls game, you can’t keep me away, and I’d like it to work.

I know it’s dumb for me to have any feelings about that lol but man I just can’t believe Odyssey reviewed that high on average, nevermind the ranking aspect, like I said it has to be one of those games that people will look back on it in 10 years and reassess it thinking "yeah actually it's on the low end of Mario

I can’t believe Odyssey is that high! Especially over Galaxy 2 and BotW?

I loved Zelda II, I like this idea and Chris’s suggestions would definitely make it a better experience. They could expand this with other characters, like Samus from Metroid, Kid Icarus, Kirby, Wario, Super Mario 2 USA... Ok I could just keep naming NES games I guess.

Yeah that aligns with my experience too, it works well often, I just have less and less time to do troubleshooting. More job responsibilities, kid responsibilities, errands, so when I’m gaming I want to spend that time just gaming.

Well I mean here’s an example:

It’s asking a lot, but I hope somehow PC gaming gets less driver fiddling and less launch bugs that pop up across different hardware setups. I’d like to get back into it but I don’t have time for troubleshooting. I am capable of doing it, I just don’t want to, and is why I abandoned it where games are concerned. The

Which is weird because MS designed Snaps and UWP, and the Xbox. It’s crazy that they can’t even get things to work well with their own software on their own devices. You can’t get a more controlled environment than that. Even Windows 10 is still full of jank.

I see it, I wonder what you can do in that situation? It’s just short of a direct copy, but something like that could be almost automated with tools on a computer the way deepfakes are done. This could start a whole new type of DMCA takedown scanning on YouTube.

Oh yeah I’m a big fan of cutting room floor and unseen64 too.

That sucks if you're right, I like the extra features (commentaries and cut scenes are cool) and better compression quality and uncompressed audio. I’m not even a cinephile and I can tell web compression is shitty.

Nintendo had a good solution with the Wii and 3DS and DSi. Just store everything encrypted on the SD card. You can back it up but can’t use it on another system.

They can do the same thing as the One and make it an app you have to download, make it cost $9.50 which is the price of the license in 2009, maybe lower now. The Wii U used the disc type but not for video playback and therefore avoided the fees. MS can do the same, and tie the fees to the playback app.

I hope it’s actually cheaper unlike the Xbox One SAD. But how much does a 4k BD drive cost anyway, it won’t be that much of a difference and will limit your ability to play others’ games or gamefly or play movies or buy used games. I think buying one to get $30 off at most would be very shortsighted.

That’s great, I love to see test rooms, there were some cool ones in Windwaker and Bloodborne as well. It’s cool when they find unused sprites or models or textures or music etc too.

Computers were designed and understood by people so they can be manipulated by people in predictable ways

Damn I meant to say “I can still hear Shane Bettenhausen occasionally on retronauts"

It’s all good. Nobody has to do anything they don’t want to. Seems like everyone had their own reasons. But relax guys competition isn’t life or death, take the hype and pressure rhetoric down a notch.
