You have to consider how they framed the service in their presentation. A big part of their pitch was that their service would be significantly better in terms of lag than the competition (OnLive, PSNow, GeForce Now, GameFly Streaming) because of the capabilities and proximity of their data centers and how their…
It’s automatically a much bigger profit for them. Instead of buying hardware that stays in your home for your use, you’re paying for their data center that they can use as they see fit when you’re offline. Also they’re not forced to upgrade their hardware on your schedule, they’ll only upgrade when it’s cost effective…
No that’s Gaikai. There’s been Gaikai/PSNow, OnLive, GameFly streaming, and GeForce Now, one more streaming service won't change anything, people will continue not to care.
It would be bad for gamers and developers if it eliminated other options.
Sekiro, Tetris Effect, and Rec Room
Man, From is so good at making fun new game concepts. They’re quickly becoming my favorite studio of all time.
If only Saturn emulation was more accurate...
Wow, so they still didn’t get computers to automatically track the actor and had to do it by hand? It looks like the angles and markings are for the artist to keep track of and match it up to the computer model.
Hmm, OK thanks, I’ll check it out. I hope they’ll have a demo.
It’s not for me, which is too bad. I'd play it if it wasn't a rhythm game.
Do they have some kind of proprietary memory mapper? Are they relying on existing mappers? Or is this FPGA on a cart?
It was a half baked and phony feeling presentation. I didn’t like that they could only demo it on stage and didn’t have details like games, prices, console apps, it felt like they were testing reactions more than actually revealing much of anything. There was a *lot* of hyperbole and set-up, making the actual product…
“I think that all you have to do is look at the level of investment that we have made and continue to make in Stadia”
The Flash animation style kept me away... It looked dated back then. Well, maybe it'll be fun for my kid!
iOS vs OS X is a poor comparison. That’s like comparing Android and Ubuntu. It’s not apt at all. Xbox One’s software and APIs are a subset of Windows called Windows Core, which are included in Windows 10. It may be hard to bring a full Windows 10 game or product to Xbox One given that you have to move to fully managed…
Prices?
This is why we have DirectX and other managed APIs which are part of the One SDK. DirectX for example abstracts the graphics hardware from the software. Games do not talk to the hardware directly, but issue DirectX calls, which then gets interpreted to actually tell the hardware to do.
That’s an odd choice, it seems if you can’t get them all from the beginning you’d either get burnt out on Halo before you get a chance to buy the later games, or the games themselves would lose relevance. Are you going to pick up Halo 4 and 5 when Infinite is coming out? Is MS going to be marketing them at the same…
Matchmaking allows gamepad and keyboard/mouse gamers to play together on PC. According to Steam statistics, half have a gamepad hooked up. Matchmaking comes in here and takes gamers of like skill and ability and connects them in multiplayer. Console games like Fortnite that support KB/M as well as matching with PC use…
