He's not saying pay them $50K for a part-time gig, he's saying pay them for the hours they are working, at a rate that if this part-time job were full-time it'd be enough to live on. This isn't rocket science. A living wage means a wage that if you worked 40 hours a week would put you above poverty level. They're

There it is.

No. It's not her job for to make sure Mattingly doesn't talk about his genitals in a professional conversation. Any sexual harassment seminar worth its salt sets some basic lines people shouldn't cross, and the fact that we keep insisting she should have done something is a violation of that basic professional

"This is not slavery, therefore it seems pretty okay" is a spectacularly dumb argument.

Hey asshole, it's a job. We have workplace regulations and wage laws for everyone. Regardless of what that job is.

You're missing the point. They are grossly underpaid and should get fair market value.

A friend of mine was an NFL cheerleader. She quit to be a dancer in a cage in a casino because the pay was better and the work was less degrading. I wish I were making this up.

There is nothing "micro" about this aggression, and I feel no need "to be fair" to this guy.

But many of these people are going to be white males and not just because of base-rates. The people who don't understand why this is a problem are people who haven't experienced micro-aggressions (or are unwilling to come to terms with their experiences). For Kotaku, the group that has to worry least about these

I hate this reasoning because it basically says no one should do anything because it happens to everyone. That's not acceptable. If I were in the industry and someone said something regarding my race or even my gender, you damn right I'm going to do something about it.

Revenge games? Seriously? This is sexual harassment dude. In other professions, you get fired for this and blacklisted from the industry. In school, you get suspended or expelled. The fact that she's afraid to use her real name shows how terrible our industry treats women who speak up against their harassers.

They are willing. They do speak out. They are speaking out.

Well you hit the nail on the head and the comments here mostly disgust me.

There have already been all those comments.

Sorry, but you can't write it off. It is easy to say you should, but given the history of women being harassed by men due to their gender, talking about it is always infinitely better than ignoring. If you ignore it, it will happen again, if you talk about it maybe next time someone will think about the repercussion

If it's happening everywhere, then by that very supposition, this says everything about the gaming community and industry. And just as other industries and communities need to battle this behavior in their own respective groups, we too need to do our part in the gaming community.

Ugh, ok, PSA time.

There's the article.

Obviously she didn't think it was a normal conversation as she posted it online for the public to see. She was right to call out his bullshit in a public fashion. Just because she didn't retort him while having this conversation, it doesn't grant him the right of being an ogre. Stop constructing some kind of apology

Why should the article bother giving you more context if the woman who was personally involved in it wasn't even comfortable posting the unedited conversation because it made her uncomfortable.
