Do gym teachers count? In that case I made it to 6. Or else it was a whole 3 before college. To that point, when my black professors or TAs saw me lighting up white kids they instantly loved me. Ironically, when my white professors saw me lighting up white kids they tried to be my friends too.

I have mixed feelings about Black teachers. Kindergarten through 8th grade, I went to an all-Black private school. On one hand, I knew my heritage front, back and side to side. I’ve often wondered about the effect of this. I had NO black teachers from K-12. I don’t recall any black teachers even being at the school, although we did have a few black administrators (and there were quite a few Hispanic teachers, because South Texas). And I didn’t go to small schools.
