The woman didn’t deserve to be jailed, obviously, but not showing up to testify against the person you reported isn’t going to help other DV victims either and wastes everyone else’s time. I’m sure the police, prosecutors and judges run into that problem a lot.

I have to agree with this. It’s a movie premiere, not a transfer of the crown jewels. They aren’t set up for an armed attacker, and there’s no reason they should have been. While I can understand the anger and grief of the families, it wasn’t reasonable to sue.

I can understand the thinking, but if it’s a staggering amount of money, then it’s pretty unreasonable for the theater to bear the entire cost of it, isn’t it? They didn’t do anything wrong and they’re out nearly three-quarters of a million dollars.
