An expression I term “losing the will to live”. Poor Merkel. Can’t wait for her memoirs.

It seriously is awkward. Since they really look like nicely designed faces, but when they move ( or don’t ) it’s really uncanny. You can’t really ignore it. Trust me. You’ll know what I ment when you get your hands on the game.

This stiffy animation still exists in the game, doesn’t it? :P

Gary?

I have been playing the trial, and yes, some of the animations are horrendous, and some (most, if not all) of the human NPC models are absolutely atrocious. Many with bright, unnatural hair that looks spraypainted on. The character creator is abysmal, etc. Basically, anything that has to do with humans is pretty

No, that’s not correct. The “valley” is a proposed dip in reaction at a particular level of realism, not a term to describe the difference between the artificial and real. See this diagram:

Oh my gosh, the unimportant NPC’s in ME1 were freaking hideous.

I don’t think anyone at any time feels unnerved, revulsion, or uncomfortable with any of the animations in mass effect. We literally just see bad animiation.

No, you’re misinterpreting what the uncanny valley is. The valley is that gap between what the artist creates and what an actual human looks/sounds/moves like. In this case the uncanny valley is wide, and in other cases it’s narrow, but it’s still the uncanny valley either way.

To say the animations in a game like this, one that is an experience meant to draw you in and have you believe the virtual world around you is lifelike and believable, has “no bearing on the overall quality of the game” is completely asinine. It has, like any part of the game, a bearing on the overall quality.

From the hour or so I put into the early access trial, I’m saddened to say my early impression is that ME Andromeda is not the drastic improvement over the past games I had hoped for. I hope to be proven wrong further along into the game.

Has Mass Effect EVER had great facial animation?

There must have been a stiff wind blowing in...

If you look at the post, ME1 has this game beat and it came out 10 years ago on an ancient version of UE3.

ME:A is getting crap because this is 2017 and everything they’ve been showing off has looked amazing, yet their facial animations and even some other animations still look like the crap they used 10 years ago.

I can’t help but see Main Lady as the Lady from Team America.

“Face tired” indeed. What happened D:

“In context, some of the clips people are sharing aren’t actually as terrible as they might appear”

Bullshit.
