I would like to hear more about Ice Cube's "redneck trucker" accusation. I don't watch Real Time frequently, but I'm not really sure Bill has ever made another joke I found nakedly redneck-trucker-level racist. That's a bit stronger phrasing than "sometimes you bump against the line" and I think that even though this

I like some his turns of phrase, but I get really tired of the "wealthy millennial living in NYC luxury" vibe of his standup and Master of None. Master of None is well-shot and well-written show, but the point of view is really tiresome. He must have more money than the jokers from Friends!

I agree with Maher on a fair amount of things, but the thing is that he's got a lot of 80's-standup DNA, so he's been very slow and clumsy to get on board liberal causes like feminism and LGBT rights. Before he was into politics, a good 90% of his act was "locker room talk."

Doesn't seem that convincing (is that even the right word??) to me. I do like the clarification of the timeline, though.

I won't go that far, but it is moving very slowly and I don't like the enlarged scope of the whole thing (space travel, showy visual effects). A lot if it seems like pure Lynch (which can be fine), but doesn't quit feel like Twin Peaks. To those who are loving it because it is "pure heroin Lynch," I'd love to know

I wonder if he barges into bachelorette parties and baby showers to further prove his…point?
"We're having a Girl's Night Out on Friday!"
"Fuck that, I'm coming too!"

I don't expect stunning effects…I just prefer the use of shadow and quiet fading light. The constant 90s CG is getting tiresome.

Loved the smoke head, I liked the tree okay when it was standing still, but didn't like it in stop-motion. The black flame and floating orb for Dougie looked bad and added nothing.

I wish he would fuck around with light and color in place of bad CG. The example I used earlier - Dougie transforming into a gold marble - could be done in so many elegant, Lynchian ways. I don't think the PS1 graphics added any mystery or fright. In fact, the white horse is a great example of how this stuff usually

They don't have to be stunning, but how about simple? maybe some practical effects? Eraserhead's baby is scary. Cooper coming out of the light socket was straight-up Josie going into the drawer knob that we've been making fun of for 25 years. People keep saying, "Lynch always had corny effects" but I don't feel that

What's shocking me is, many of the effects and scenarios in this season so far are as dumb-looking as that drawer-knob scene, but people are loving it this time around..? I'm still on board by I've got major reservations.

It may be a choice, but I contend it's a bad choice. The effects are laughable and not necessary: Dougie could've just vanished and left the gold sphere in his place. That seems more inline with the Twin Peaks we remember than the goofy black flame and floating orb. These bad effects are the same thing we give other

I'll have to listen mote carefully to some old Lynch. I love the constant electric hum, but I've never noticed the sudden drop to silence allowing the actors to speak. It had an unprofessional, z-movie vibe I found distracting.

Sound design question: Was it just me or did the ambient sound get louder and louder, then cut to complete silence when dialog was spoken? I get that it was an intentional choice but I didn't like how it came off.

The bad effects did bother me. The CG ghost coming out of the glass box was Sharknado-level. When the tree/dendrite thing attacked Cooper in the Red Room, I was begging for it to end, it looked so bad. The more grounded stuff (Matthew Lillard, the Bang Bang Bar) landed better than the supernatural, I thought.

I thought the visual effects were pretty crappy. Cooper floating in the glass box with that sepia effect looked like a Dream Theater album cover.

Guided by Voices, "Things That I Will Keep"

I'm confused as to if there's actually an admission of guilt in there somewhere. I mean, I know "nuh uh!" is not the way to go either, but if I were totally innocent and woke up blindsided by false accusations, I'm not sure my statement would be this noncommital.

I think the more interesting part was that he also cut off a lot if his friends, including the 90+ year-old woman he'd known for decades. The podcast sucked and was a complete waste of time, but his totally ending friendships is actually odd, way moreso than leaving the publuc sphere.

They were so hell-bent on having all pairings be odd couples like Mike and Mike, they didn't see the value in having two guys with actual chemistry, I guess? Like they don't even know it when they hear it? They're sort of trying it again with His and Hers, bit it seems much more like they were put together by
