Well, your Prelude weighed something like 700lbs less than a modern Mazda 3, so the power to weight ratio was still better.

Always a good idea.

I mean, Ford won the bidding for Daewoo (after having lost the bidding for Kia despite reportedly having the highest offer). But their mechanics accountants discovered massive oil leaks accounting fraud that massively overstated the value of Daewoo... as in $21 billion overstated the value.... which

Not one bit of this is even remotely true

And why is there no space on the back seat, even compared to other cars in its segment?

“Everyrhing else about” the new Mazda 3 is not “top-notch.” The hatchback has possibly the worst visibility in the rear that I’ve seen in a car personally. Why are those pillars so fucking big?!

Could have been avoided by offering Nissan two seats on the board and asking them at the same time as Renault. Not sure if FCA was hoping Renault would split from Nissan or if they really thought that would work...

Someone finally took McParland’s advice and got a pre-purchase inspection!  Huzzah!

So can Hyundai get in on the sloppy seconds? In theory, a Hyundai / Kia / FCA merger is more complementary to each other. Hyundai gets trucks and SUVs while FCA marries into a mega corp with deep pockets and gets electric / fuel cell technology.

Renault asked if they could take FCA in to their personal mechanic/accountant to be checked out before the deal.

Good point. 95 RON is 91 octane. They should show the numbers with 87. I’m guessing a spark compression engine with a 16:1 compression ratio will be greatly affected by 87 octane. And a mazda 3 is a regular car and should be running on regular gas.

I’m sure if this engine was dropped in a plastic-wrapped sardine can, it would get much better numbers, given the 800 lbs of safety technology it wouldn’t have to heave around.

Lets not lose sight of the most important part of this.  The auto industry screamed bloody murder when the Feds set future MPG at 27 and said it would never happen and couldn’t be done.  Every time the goal went up we heard the same thing.  Turns out that if they are motivated they can actually be quite innovative.

That's true. Shame about having to drive a CVT though

I’m still amazed that Mazda took what should be ancient tech—a gasoline motor—and done something to it so rad that makes it perform so well at certain metrics. And since I used to own an RX-7, this David’s successful challenge to the auto world’s Goliaths is too cool.

Exactly. You also start to subconsciously hate the car or at least like it less, so the snowballing is more likely to occur, and you are on your way to considering it disposable and moving on. In that regard it’s not that different to a friendship or romantic relationship (which of course is pretty close to the mark

Ugh, yes. You’re right.

This guy you’re talking to strikes me as a professional “yes but”. Every time I’ve ever seen a thread on this stuff, one of them worms his way into one of the threads, starts asking endless questions, and “yes but”s every single woman who offers a single piece of advice.

It’s maintenance.
We all have to do it. I see no reason why they shouldn’t - which is why I have literally no patience with these types.

It is the worst deal out there for what it offers because literally nobody else would charge for that. Nintendo charges money to move your pokemon between game generations, even if you own all the relevant hardware. That shit used to be free. Then they decided they could make some money. Never mind how it holds your
