It's always interesting to see games from a completely different angle. I remember that I got my hands on a post-mortem by a failed game made by a couple of Iranian programmers, which had been posted on Gamasutra I believe.

Flower and Snake 3? Hey, I've seen that one!
Imagine a Jade Empire set with the Mass Effect engine, using a similar high-action RPG/action hybrid.
Childhood dream destroyed. It's just like Sonic the Hedgehog TV-series, waiting for season 2... it never came...
What is important to understand with Duke Nukem Forever is that the game being released has not had a 13 year development period. It's had something more akin to 2 years of development, using the tools and engine the Borderland team had at its disposal.

I didn't quite get that excited when I saw the trailer, but I've never been a superhuge fan of the Elder Scrolls games. I guess I prefer more story-driven games than sandboxy.
@Jandau: Nah, once you get swamped in high powered enemies beams are no longer a viable option as is spamming super-quick memorized magicka combos such as lightning bolt.
@Luke Plunkett: Steam + Arcane + Arcane + Lightning + Lightning is probably the most powerful beam in the game. The steam will soak people getting hit by it, making the lightning inside the beam more powerful.
The problem with rabid, angry fans is that it disassociate developers with their community. Smaller games with tighter community such as League of Legends work fine, and there is a lot of community feedback. Hell, WoW has a lot of coummunity feedback and such as well.
Wait, it died? I thought it was doing well. It looked well developed and I had some fun time playing it with my friend.
When I first saw the image, I thought to myself "Oh cool, a Bionic Commando Engineer! That would be a cool custom skin."
