The cover art on the blu actively put me off buying it. Too repulsive, even by Tommy Wiseau photo standards.
It feels to me like the show has been trying to top the trauma of Hershel's death for ages now, to diminishing returns. Once you kill off so many characters in horrible/upsetting ways, you just start expecting them to die, and grow less attached to them. I still like the show, but there's a lot of wheel-spinning…
Given what happened in the S7 premiere (and its overall tone), I feel they didn't commit fully to the sense of utter hopelessness that Negan's threat represented. Doesn't help that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is having too much of a ball as Negan, which diminishes his menace over the season, even when he's scalding a dude's…

His updates from his Kickstarter for Da Sweet Blood of Jesus were similarly unreadable, and nearly always all caps. Makes me wonder if he dictates his scripts to a typist like Stephen J. Cannell did.

A pretty fair assessment of the series, this. They're junk food, but comfortable junk food, just like the Resident Evil films. I actually find their lack of ambition kind of refreshing.
I'd say skip Awakening and go straight to Blood Wars. You're not missing anything, barring the woefully unconvincing CGI/stock footage/body double reappearance of Michael at the beginning.
