Oftentimes I’m not sure Haisley even reads what he’s writing.

I’ve always felt soccer teams rely a bit more on managers/head coaches than teams in other sports. Like, Joe Torre getting a ton of credit drives me insane, because being a baseball manager is like 97% how accommodating you are to the media. The tactics, etc. of soccer at least create some sort of degree of difficulty…

The rumor at the time placed the blame for Harkes’s exclusion on Harkes having an affair with one of his teammates’ wives, leading then-manager Steve Sampson to kick him out of the group. This rumor has since been confirmed by both Wynalda and Sampson.

He was also, FWIW, a real, actual cog for Roma for several seasons not too long ago before MLS ruined that as well.
