I am fine with the AMT in principle, but in practice it’s been used to hoover up lots of money from relatively affluent working families (we’re not talking about Romney-style rentiers here) which leads to a lot of unfair results as they cannot take advantage of tax deductions afforded to them in the regular tax code.

Not necessarily. Tier lists are not an objective measure, it’s just what people think are good. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as scrubs latch on to whatever characters are high tier, foolishly believing that confers some sort of advantage.

That 2001 Sixers team may have been the worst NBA Finals team ever, so does King really deserve any props?

Scarlett Johansson is one of the best actresses working. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that was worse for having her. If your goal is making a good movie, you can do a lot worse than her - like, for example, Devon Aoki. FFS.

It’s just identity politics. ScarJo isn’t the “right” ethnicity so how she did in the role doesn’t matter.

Yea. The “narrative”

Mistakes were not made. They made the game they wanted to make it. You may want it to be different and that’s fine. But the definition of a “mistake” is not “they didn’t do what I wanted them to do.”

how good are these coaches that can beat everyone but UConn, who they lose to by 50 points? And it’s not just a one time thing, it is every single year.

Subsidized by whom?

UConn wins 110-53.

I would argue it very much is the case in women’s basketball and always has been. UConn has just replaced Tennessee, that’s all. I mean, for fuck’s sake, they have won the championship 10 times since 2000. They are more dominant than Tennessee ever was.

You’re nuts. Early sports leagues were essentially run by tyrants who set up teams that barnstormed their way through the country playing any tom dick and harry they could squeeze a buck from. They didn’t have some rich successful sports league subsidizing them (by definition, how could they?).

Does it matter? UConn will win every game by 40 points.

I just could never glom onto Civ 5. I wanted to, but it never stuck.

He’s just a fan of “Nuthin But a G Thang”

Not on Youtube, he said it on Twitter, where nobody can say anything that might make one person raise their eyebrow slightly without being swarmed.

What isn’t a “basic human right” on gawker?

Maybe people don’t want to live in a liberal welfare state. They just don’t want the “help” that is on offer. We have a federal system where these decisions can be made at the state level. Elections are supposed to be used to square the circle on the federal level but all they do now is leave everyone unhappy.

Military power is important for a state. Indeed, it is one of the few powers that the Constitution explicitly gives to the feds.

It’s almost like we are a republic, and any individual states don’t get their way.
