So you’re saying the AV Club is broke? That it can’t afford to recap T&B?

Next week: Cisco pulls the greatest Larry David Maneuver of the 21st century.

If they were smart, they would’ve had a queer racist villain during Black History Month and a black homophobic villain during Pride Month. Maximum demographic coverage and maximum deniability.

Okay okay okay. Wait. Just. Okay. Wait.

It also immediately raises the question of why a Kryptonian consciousness would suddenly allow a human to access Kryptonian powers. Unfortunately that’s just baseline-level “lol shut up you nerd that’s not what the show is really about” territory for superhero shows.

To keep it as short and polite as I can, my perspective on Grimm -> S&L is that Tulloch deserves a lot of credit for honing her craft in the interim.

There’s always been an undercurrent in Watchmen that Dr. Manhattan is kind of an uncreative donkey. It’s the most elegant explanation for how a mere mortal like Ozymandias is still able to surprise him. There’s a dire moral conversation about whether anyone should have Dr. Manhattan’s powers, sure, but there’s also a

I think Gaiman’s substantially over-crediting the human race. We have a remarkable ability to experience things, and just not get it.

I agree in principle, but in practice, “I like you a lot” has become toxic. “I don’t want what you want, but now let’s talk about what you can still do for me.” If only friendships were automatically equitable and also didn’t require any effort, right?

According to them, they already did all that. Only took them five seconds.

Aquaman does not work with Superman alive, period. I withhold commentary on whether it works less-horribly with one JL cut or the other.

Having a quippy villain committing atrocities is a high-difficulty maneuver, and AoU did not succeed. Ultron needed to be “my life is falling apart” insane a lot earlier and a lot more frequently. Either that, or his plans needed to be way more of a slow burn. Of course, he was a one-off villain for a single movie,

I didn’t think your post was dickish at all. I deliberately chose to respond to a wisecrack with seriousness, because I thought there was something interesting there to talk about.

I think we can all agree that the ur-statement remains the same: “Herbert Marcuse was right, now fucking pay us.”

There are in fact at a lot of heterosexual girls out there who prefer their awkward teen vampire fantasies to draw the line at homoeroticism, stopping short of outright queerness. It’s hardly surprising we had a surge of relatively straight vampire media. That’s a lot of money to leave on the table otherwise. Twilight

There’s something amusing about the intersection of “bury your gays” and vampires. Feels like a loophole.

I don’t think that’s an example of horseshoe theory. I just think it’s an example of what happens when a critical mass of dum-dums joins up with any cause that revolves around identity politics, no matter how noble it is, or how well-intentioned said dums-dums are. They end up accidentally stumbling back into bigotry

>maybe it’ll evolve into him being one of the few heroes on the planet able to stop Superman if he ever runs amok

And yet there’s literally a timeless quote about humor that goes:
