It’s all an interconnected web of awfulness that doesn’t cleanly fit into a left vs right narrative. But basically, homeowners in CA have spent the last 50 years or so making life worse for everyone else just because they can. Want to build public housing? The people get to vote on that, and those homeowners

Zoning bylaws. Varies by state, but typically enacted on the lowest level of government possible (city or town, sometimes county).

Despite being painted as a liberal fantasyland, there are tons of hand-wringing nimbys out there who would be happy with pushing all of the homeless out to sea on the garbage raft to keep their property values up.

Loud Pipes save lives.

Oh, you’re that guy.

It takes truly insane management brain to think you can just take person with a desk job and put them on an actual production floor and not have it be a monumental disaster.

It is so ridiculous how people really believe the disinformation that unions=undemocratic/socialist/communist. My grandparents here in Canada still buy that idea. Collective bargaining to defend worker’s rights is the definition of democracy. It’s not socialist, or then the workers would have more control over

I was a Teamster for 34 years working for that company with all the brown trucks. Never once did I cross a picket line.

6% is fucking garbage, and you shouldn’t be happy with the 3% you get. I got a measly 2% raise last month and I’m on the verge of just walking out of the office and never coming back. Hopefully I can find something better soon.

When I was picketing with some nurses at a hospital (supporting) There were teamsters also sympathy picketing with the nurses. some truck came to deliver construction equipment and some upset and scary looking teamsters got on their cell phones and the trucks turned around and left. They said that their supervisors

The most important part of Italy’s HSR is that the majority of it was built just in the last 15 years, on top of ancient infrastructure. Still, I can’t even work up the energy to dream of something like that in the US because whatever plan will be met with some jackass poking his head out of a trashcan full of F18's

Learning that the train’s damage was mostly from vandalism and not from sitting was the saddest part. Images as recent as 2019 show it to be in mostly complete condition. Apparently, it gained some unfortunate popularity after people on social media posted its coordinates.

I cannot understand what goes through people’s heads when they steal from things like this. If I found this in the woods in pristine condition, stealing parts off from it wouldn’t even cross my minds.

A tidbit of info on the top image...

what an awful thing to say when 3 people died....

Tough to say without being qualified on the territory, but there are a few plausible explanations. The one certainty is that is was at a signal, meaning it was at least controlled territory. With that being said:

Of course the guy in the passenger seat wasn’t driving. That’s ridiculous. It was a remote control truck. Kamala was really driving it from her desk in the Oval Office.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate just how well this image summarizes the entire article?

both sets of grandparents called me telling me that they used this. it was a fun experience.
