I guess Jalopnik doesn’t know what to do with a high budget because these picks lack imagination. This is what he should get. The best automotive decision he has made.

My biggest question about Carmax is whether they’ll remove the sticker for you or you have to do it yourself?

A co-worker and I often have this conversation. Our consensus is a minivan with car-seats. You must make it believable by not vacuuming it, sprinkle cereal and candy wrappers around, and have stains on the car seats. Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna for the added reliability. And top it off with a few family stickers

Lol, I had the same MKV GTI. Although I didn’t deliver pizza, my GTI had the same problems:

They always need good engineers, especially on the hard engineering side: structural engineers (my field), thermal engineers, software engineers - particularly guidance/navigation/control (GNC), electrical engineers, and RF or optical engineers. These fields are most often hard to fill, not just by NASA, but by

In terms of complete automotive buffoonery, what make/model do you look at and automatically say: that guy will drive like a complete idiot. My top three are:

Strange, but amusing ad. My take is that it was making fun of both the old and new vehicles. As the kids would say, this seems like a “self own.”

Knew a kid in college that came from a very rich family. His “parking pass” was just illegally parking in faculty/staff spots and paying the parking tickets if he gets them. $100 to $200 literally doesn’t matter to him.

I was at a conference two years ago and a few JPL engineers were giving a talk about the various landing concepts and suspension geometry they evaluated for this system. I was wondering if they ever consulted auto engineers because many of these concepts are similar to automotive designs.

YES! PHEV seems to be the most logical choice to bridge the gap. People with full EV will generally have a gas-powered vehicle in their garage as well. However, PHEV can serve households with a single vehicle. To me, it doesn’t make much sense to keep increasing the range of EVs at the huge expense of cost and weight.

100% agree. That’s my unofficial motto as well, that’s there is no free lunch. Every decision or solution comes at the expense of something else. We will never have a “best” solution to the problem. As long as people buy (and need) 3000 lbs+ vehicles for personal modes of transportation, it will never be

Makes sense to me: Toyota side are cars, hybrids, and family CUVs. I’d get rid of the Sequoia and make the “Grand” Highlander be the largest crossover on the Toyota side.

Great idea actually. The Land Cruiser brand would be a credible alternative to Jeep. The only question would be what to do with the 4Runner, which is an iconic Toyota vehicle that would fit nicely in the new Land Cruiser brand.

You get a rightly deserved star for excellent picture comparisons. Better than many of the pictures on the main article. With Kristen’s departure, the quality of non-manufacturer photos on Jalopnik has taken a nosedive.

Power windows and locks, which has been a staple of all vehicles manufactured in the last 30 years, is somehow a “useless electronic.”

You hate electronics, but what are you using to comment on an internet website? My algorithm is all confused.

What was your charging infrastructure at home? Did you just plug all of them in a regular 15-amp, 110V outlet? Were there any modifications necessary?

Yes, a great idea! However, joint ownership is still a hassle. Just someone buy it, and when someone else needs it, just let them borrow it for $20 or a case of beer.

The cheapest and simplest solution is to rent the truck for the day, or weekend, and have everyone chip in for an equal amount for the truck. Then have a sign-off sheet to “reserve” the truck for a certain amount of time. Even if you buy the additional damage waiver, you’re looking at about $80/day for the truck.

My favorite thermoplastic is PEEK - poly ether ether ketone. Learned it once and never forgot.
