I'm crediting it to soccer players in European leagues, which trickled down to European party bros, which made its way to party-bro electronic musicians, which made it to the mainstream.

Nah, nothing wrong with that. It's the best news. That's what happens when you're the Mike McCarthy of politics, always looking for safe choices (not compromises), never creativity or risks.
And Call Super and Dungen and Deluge and Bat For Lashes and Basenji and Rodhad and Gesaffelstein and Finn and new Mike Callander and Lord Huron songs and and and.
I don’t know, I’ve been on board since Lies(/The Twilight Sad) and have seen them live from when they were nervous and almost bad to now being a touring machine. It’s good, a welcome addition, but weightless and what I worried the phenomenal 1st LP would be. I’m with the Consequence Of Sound review more than Kyle’s.…

*shrug* Everyone's knowledge is imperfect, but in terms of "what matters" and "what effect one can have," it seems like (ugh) Maher's right.
His is of the extraordinarily negative, near-nihilist variety of atheist, and, in addition, he uses religious language constantly for his entire construction of race.
