This really comes down to communication.  Talk to your friends.  Know what they like and respect it.  And expect the same.  A lot of this comes down to people expecting others to be mindreaders and not speaking up.

It’s really not that gross? Maybe you live in the city somewhere, but around here there are deer, raccoons, skunks, birds, etc even in the suburbs. They pee on people’s lawns - no one makes a big fuss about it. That’s just nature for you. So I really don’t get what difference a dog or cat makes.

Which I’m in agreement with. Taking pictures/video is no excuse for not being mindful of your surroundings and making sure your not interfering with others experience of the event.
