For me I also really like tinkering with cars and testing out different ideas. I’d be more nervous to mess with a six figure car than I am a more affordable one. So I get my hobby in with this. I may call up my insurance company to see if they’re able to cover the modifications for a slight premium.

This was a while ago but I got a premium for that parts and suspension work I had done to mine when I sold it. Not sure if I came out ahead vs returning to stock and unloading the parts, but it covered my honeymoon which was all I wanted.

This is true, but if you modify a 20-40k car to how you want it and you have to replace a fender, windshield, etc. it’s a lot cheaper than having to do so on the 80-100k car that was pretty close to how you’d want it.

Depends on the car, but it usually rushes the engagement of the syncros and increases the risk of a missed shift if you’re a bit too quick about it.
