I’d make the comparison to the TRANSFORMERS movies, which I find nearly unwatchable. The F&F franchise has a strong set of characters that they treat with a lot of affection. I don’t think Bay is capable of affection. Bay has all-star casts that come across poorly — amazing comedic performers who aren’t funny because

“Turns out a lot of people like watching movies in a theater!”

I got my IMAX tickets as soon as a) I was vaccinated and B) my theater re-opened. It was fantastic to have that experience, esp. with probably the best F&F movie to date.

Saw it in IMAX. My goodness, I got my money’s worth from the Mexico chase scene alone; that was Fury Road levels of utterly bonkers.

This also can’t be undersold, but F&F having an incredibly diverse cast with movies as big as they are leads to an amazing job reaching out to various underserved audiences. They draw the biggest % of POC audiences BY FAR of any large franchise.

I think people are more shocked that the doomsday predictions of COVID driving a stake through the movie theater industry didn’t pan out. Turns out a lot of people like watching movies in a theater!

The HDTGM podcast loves referencing Geostorm and their Geostorm episode was a hoot, so I finally watched it for the first time a couple months ago expecting a hilarious trainwreck. Was disappointed that it’s mostly just pretty boring.

Watched it in 4DX opening night - had a fucking ball. Damn it felt good to go to the movies!

I feel people need to have different venacular for “dumb movies made with passion and care” versus “dumb movies which are just dumb and boring.” Both the F&F franchise and Geostorm are “dumb movies.” But while Geostorm was made lazily and even with all of its absurdity was still boring, F&F is made by people who

Overseas audiences LVE mindless American movies (so do Americans of course) so Hollywood keeps pumping them out.....

I thought this was going to released December of this year so to me, it got bumped up by tow months!

The Ten Rings does refer to the Mandarin, and IIRC, they have said before that The Mandarin is Shang Chi’s father in the MCU continuity.  They obviously had to tweak it from the comics a bit - after all, Fu Manchu is not a Marvel character, and he’s also kind of the archetypal Yellow Peril stereotype, so he is

There’s hope for Tim Blake Nelson returning yet!

This is my thoughts, verbatim. The first trailer was bland, but this one had a personality.

Is that Blonsky in the tournament?

There’s some great moments in Rebels where you see the potential, like Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma debating the merits of terrorism in a rebellion. Then it goes right back to some kiddie nonsense so they keep buying the toys.

That would be awesome. Shows like Clone Wars and Rebels in particular need a “just the good ones” playlist.

I feel like Rogue One gets a pass for the same reason some people really love TLJ: because it’s “different.” It doesn’t start with a crawl! John Williams didn’t do the score! It shows the uglier side of war!

I hate Rogue One, and the space battle doesn’t save it for me.

Yeah, I didn’t get the raves for Donald Glover’s performance.  He was fine just like Alden, but “fine” is really not good enough for Star Wars.  Disney is fine with it, but I don’t believe we’re out of line to expect more than “fine” from a Star Wars film.
