I mean Putin literally installed himself in power using a similar conspiracy only a few years prior to this movie.

Portman may have won an Oscar a few years later for Black Swan but her performance as Evey is definitely on par with that.

Fair enough, but that doesn’t change the subject matter being fascism, only how the fascists took control. And it still doesn’t make it about Bush - hell, the film literally talks about how screwed America is after another civil war, then ignores it utterly.

In the graphic novel, WWIII breaks out between the US and the USSR (which didn’t seem quite so farfetched in the early ‘80s, and almost happened in late 1983 — look up Able Archer if you want to have trouble sleeping at night). This has the effect of wiping out a massive chunk of the world’s population and

Purefoy not only took the role, but is in the film. He filmed a couple of scenes (IIRC, around the alley at the start) and then dropped out due to the costume. Weaving then took over the role, the Purefoy scenes were overdubbed in post (much like Weaving’s own, since his voice is singularly unmuffled.)

Weaving, Hurt, Portman, and Rea were all outstanding. Weaving especially.

I love that James Purefoy was offered the role of V and didn’t take it because he couldn’t get past the idea of acting with a mask on.  I can only imagine the “Hold my beer” moment when Hugo Weaving was offered the role.

I like V For Vendetta, but I feel the same way about it as I do about From Hell: it’s an entertaining movie, but it’s not Alan Moore’s story so much as the parts the filmmakers found the most relevant and interesting, reshaped into a conventional three-act Hollywood structure.

My point was that there would be people who’d remember the events of the first two movies vividly, but they’d be surrounded by newer arrivals who had no firsthand experience, as well as people who’d been there but tuned out the chaos (which was arguably more pronounced in BB than TDK). Most people know what you’re

Agreed. People just love to hate stuff, especially DC films lol.

Maybe we’re just reading different reviews then. Either way, my point is that the major beats of the film are still dumb no matter how much support you hold under them. If you put a titanium pedestal beneath a pile of shit, it doesn’t matter, because you’re supporting shit.

I figure somehow Cruella’s ambitions are going to be challenged through forces that seek to ruin her reputation by painting her as a horrid monster who skins puppies alive for her fashion and that she’s going to come out on top by embracing the fictional notoriety. Putting my money on  a Dark Knight Rises sort of

They might havemoved on” but I like geraltcloud9’s 9/11 comparison. Batman probably was forgotten by the rest of the country after he went into hiding, but he’s a local legend. And it makes sense - he thwarted two major terrorist attacks. He’d be remembered for that alone, but the cops and gang bangers remember him

Helps convey the confusion I feel for the previous statement. Emotions are hard to convey via text.

I think the point is that there’s no CGI upper lip and no weird $2 sets, which is to say there aren’t any hatchet scars the original cut had. That’s not to say it’s amazing, but just that the original had mistakes that were both glaring and obvious in source.

I mean, I get that they’re saying that Earth is vulnerable without it’s greatest hero, but then the story hinges on revenge for a thwarted invasion from literally thousands of years ago. Superman has only been alive and on earth for like 30 years.

If this revamped film is considered a success, then the next movie I want to get similar treatment is the 2007 CGI Beowulf; update it with the best CGI tech that is available now.

There are plenty of movies that are better as Director's Cut. What are you talking about?

Question James, Is there any part in that epilogue where they explain how a resurrected Clark Kent is supposed to go back to his life without anyone questioning his secret identity? He had an open casket funeral with all of his loved ones in attendance. (In the comics Clark was declared missing when Doomsday killed

People are so mad that other people think it’s good lmao
