The key component of my original comment was the “Deacons For Defense” part. They were much quieter but much more widespread than even most black folks know (even now). If there was ever going to be major white bloodshed during that period, it was likely going to come from them...not Malcolm.

From what I can tell, yes he changed it.

Sorry, but you don’t get the luxury of defining for yourself what should or shouldn’t be offensive and dehumanizing to the people on this site.  They do.  Your “subtle distinction” is moot.  You’re still pretty much fucked!

When you use terms like “you people”, you’re pretty much fucked in terms of anything else you have to say! It simply screams at 120 db, “RACIST MF!!!” All else is pretty much irrelevant after that.

Yet back you come, to a place you have to make a special trip to find.

Though it’s mostly covered up in the history books, Hoover and Johnson and the rest of the good old boys secretly knew they had a choice between negotiating the terms of civil rights with Martin, or having to explain a whole lot of white deaths. If not for that very real threat Martin would have been a lot easier for

Like the Die Hard movie.  Put a big placard on him that says, I hate n****rs.  Than drop him off in a black neighborhood for a couple hours.  I guarantee, IF he makes it back, he’ll have a very new understanding of things!

My personal take is that Martin would be a much smaller footnote in the history books if not for the opposing choice of Malcolm, the Black Panthers AND the Deacons For Defense.

Here’s my favorite part!

No.  That’s the fundamental problem here.  You’re so privileged and oblivious that you don’t KNOW that you are!  Or that you should even have to care!

Can someone PLEASE help me find out where the factory is in Silicon Valley that they keep endlessly churning these clones (or whatever the hell scientific abomination they are) out night and day! Because I’ve deduced that no matter how many you seem to set straight, there somehow manages to keep being millions more

Because when you’re accustomed to white privilege “no” feels like oppression.”

No, but coming on a black site and thinking you have the right to say anything you think or feel, regardless of how it affects those black people is most definitely WHITE privilege!

No. Make no mistake about it. I’ll be the first one chomping and pointing and laughing at your oblivious and over-privileged ass when the humiliation starts.

Listening ain’t your strong suit.

First and foremost, you should begin from a starting place of accepting that what you “feel” and what you’ve read, these people have lived PAINFULLY every second of every day for a lifetime. For you it’s theoretical, for them it’s life and death REAL! And finally, when you get tired of it you can turn it off and go

I’m not sure that was intended for me, but point very much taken.

Ok, gloves off!

That’s very specifically referred to as “deflecting” from the original question. And it’s a very common thing in discussions about race. Care to respond directly to the actual question?

As I’ve said, maintaining ago-old illusions works pretty well when you’re 90-95 percent of the population. But it tends to get a lot more challenging when you start getting down in the 65-70 percent range.
