When it is crooked it isn’t business as usual. Inspections should not be done by those who profit from auto repair. They need to be done by an independent 3rd party, but the cost for such a system isn’t practical.

The crooked shops make up issues or exaggerate minor repairs to make money. We don’t have inspections but I see our oil change shops sell services that either aren’t necessary or at an over inflated price point. Too many times do you see someone with a 250 repair bill when they came in for a 30$ oil change.

I am glad we don’t have any type of automotive inspection in Minnesota. 1 of my 3 cars might pass an emissions test if it was required.

This is a major issue with these inspections. There is a huge conflict of interests when the inspector also works in the automotive repair industry.

The laws are more liberal out west in both the u.s. and Canada. We get trucks from Idaho every once in awhile and they can legally load 620 to 650 cwt with all the axels and their pup trailer.
