Gauge cluster is legitimately awesome.

The MX-5 falls into this category too - in fact I’d say it owns the purist lightweight sports car segment.

In other words - for 99% of the 1% of Land Rover owners who actually ever drive it off road, who don’t cross rivers...

It’s so bad I suspect it’s a rumor:

Ha - YES!

It would have shown the car that WAS speeding flying past the group of traffic that I was in, or (as I want to do it, positioned where my center dome light is)) the speedometer on my own car. For that 88MPH ticket, I would have fought it - even my own lawyer said “don’t bother, it’s your word against theirs”. Video

Fortunately THESE aren’t the type of things that make me want a dash cam.

So are some cars - that’s not really a lot.

By contrast, trucks with frames can tow up to 40,000 pounds, some of them even without a fifth wheel.
My girlfriend and I were checking RV trailers out at an RV show, and one key element I was looking at each was “Could I tow this with a Tacoma?”
Definitely came across some

If the insurance company paid out (read: paid for) the car, they own the car.

Towing.

Or just extract that one good part it has - the motor. And ECU. And harnesses. Same drill as any modern transplant.

Saw a lifted 1st Gen NewBeetle the other week, with a big basket roof rack and a fifth chunky tire up there as a spare, couple KC lights up front I’m sure.

...make me a guy with industry experience.

Sure - if you know what you are doing, you know what to look for in terms of potential problems. And you know what they are really worth, to negotiate. If you do your job, you can get yourself a nice base for a project car.

2 considerations:

Your “reputable shop” looked you up and down, decided you were dressed like a trust fund kid, rolled the dice, and threw the “quote for a guy who doesn’t care about money” quote at you. I’ve been affiliated with many custom shops - the irony is, the showpiece installs are 60% these customers (4౦% owner and employees),

It’s wrong to conclude that you can’t improve a car, based on undoing some 19 year old’s hacks.

“should be cheaper”

Great to know - these are beneficial, especially including the details you do!

I’m sure. Maybe it’s our advanced date or advanced age providing the perspective.
