haha - never thought about it that way! Great comment.

Original was a 1340 pre-crossflow cosworth with dual 40DCOE’s, but most race cars went to 1500cc after SCCA allowed it in the late 60's or early 70's. The Lucas 5 3/4" (576) Headlights are lighter and more aerodynamic than the 7", plus I like the look better. Some early Series 2 cars used the Lucas 576 headlights, so

Very nice, Chris. I’ve had a lot of minitlie style wheels over the years. To me, watanabes are a close second with panasports being third. On my ae86, watanabes looked more correct than minilites!

Minilites weren’t around until about 1965, so they are not YOM, but I would argue still period correct. Funny you should mention magnesium. The wheels shown on the ground are period magnesium minilites - obviously not suitable for street purpose.

Love this story. Thanks for sharing!

Tire choice was deliberate and I believe them to be quite “decent.” They are hard compound dunlop racing bias ply racing tires. They offer good grip without heat cycling and give the most perfect 4-wheel drifts. Plus I love that the tread pattern looks like something off a Lotus 49.

There are a few - most are crossflow powered live-axle cars. For $30k, you’ll get a dedion axle and ztec.

Yikes...I haven’t seen a 356 in $30K territory for a few years. The closest I can get you is $24K for a caterham from Kampena motors. Real Lotuses generally go for right around $30K though.

Cheers!

They are genuine minilites. Minilite inspired this type of wheel which is probably one of the most duplicated wheel designs ever.

I can only assume what Mr. Petrany means is - this car has even fewer bells/whistles than your typical caterham. Most caterhams weigh in at >1200 lbs. This one weighs 1000.

For a pristine Seven in original condition, maybe. Most 7's are far from this state, though. If you want a driver, they are about 1/2 the price of a 356 in similar condition.

sure - relative to a miata it’s expensive, but I don’t get nearly as many smiles out of driving a miata.
