I apologize for correcting you out of turn; it’s clearer to me on a re-read that you were not (mis)quoting her threatening a libel suit - you were mocking her for threatening a “liable” suit. Perhaps looking at where your quote marks are would demonstrate why I thought the other way to begin with. Yes, obviously,

I agree with the gist of what you’re saying here, and I just want to let you know that ‘libel’ is the correct word in this instance, it means defaming someone. ‘Liable’ means “responsible for by law,” as in, liable for my dog biting you.

Yes, definitely has a selfish read to it! The Worst Hard Time doesn’t talk specifically about Charles Ingalls, but it covers a lot of that same time period. When Egan (author) writes about the Homestead Act and other government campaigns as well as truly actually fraudulent companies that were set up on purpose to

For some additional context and truly interesting historical information about the Little House books, may I recommend:

This whole reply is its very own type of flex

There was a Rainforest Cafe in the bottom floor of the Natural History museum where I grew up and I assumed it was a cute themed museum restaurant. TIL there are other Rainforest Cafes!

Yeah, what does that au pair even do? Why can’t they take on some math riddle duty?

And remember, Erik Prince is Betsy DeVos’ brother. It goes to the top.

I ended up with Felicity, Kirsten, and Samantha. I had most of the books, and a lot of the clothes. That’s... not how you wear that?

Thank you for sharing this experience!

Agreed. Thank you!!

May well have been a 50s sitcom trope, but I certainly drank milk with pretty much every meal I ate at home until I graduated from high school. 90s-00s.

Funny that you mention, I am in stop and go traffic most of the time... hence why I prefer my automatic car... and why my husband, driver of the manual car, complains about driving around town.

Or he could have consulted me on the purchase and we could both have cars that we could both drive. I do not need your condescending “learn to drive” speech. I have a license and car that work just fine. Just because you recently did it doesn’t mean anything to me.

It makes no sense to me not to have cars we can both drive just in case.

I feel similarly about my partner who chose to buy a manual Forester after his sedan was totaled. I drive an automatic. He can take my car, but I can’t take his (I never had the chance to learn to drive manual). If he drives us somewhere, he has to be the one to drive back. If his car’s the only one available, I’m stuc

I think they’re both Sharon Osbourne? Possibly before and after the much publicized ‘new face’?

Saw Starlight Express at the Apollo in London as a kid and it blew my mind. I also would love to see this as a neon 80s dream film.
