It does. Each individual stitch is basically a knot, when you think about it (a finished off section in its own right); a knit stitch is just a loop (has to be held in order to function - 2 needles). I don’t think one is better than the other, but some people take more to one than the other.

Don’t forget that crochet also uses more yarn than knitting, bringing down your margin :-(
