Francis does do some objectively cool stuff. The austere lifestyle, homeless outreach, anti-mafia stuff, etc. He also does a lot of stuff that’s just very clever PR

Abortion is considered be one of those things that by doing it you remove yourself from the Church and excommunicate yourself. You undo it when you confess.

Good luck with that alternative. Complete moral libertarianism is... dicey, to say the least

I just fail to see how holding love in your heart for people, regardless of their actions, is anything less than noble. If you’re using it as camouflage for still hating a person, that’s shitty, scumbag behavior, but if you mean it, I can’t see how it’s a bad policy at all.

To me, a huge fucking deal would be Franky says priests can be women and be married. Or, hey, Africa, condoms are smart. Or if there were some mechanism to end the pariah thing at the parish level. This is the same thing that JPII said 20ish years ago, and it didn’t make much of a difference then. To me, this is just

I don’t see how ‘love the sinner/hate the sin’ is a bad policy. I get how viewing abortion as a sin is a problem, but I fail to see how continuing to have love in your heart for someone who has done something you think is wrong is a bad policy at all.

all kinds of usually unforgivable sins

No, it really isn’t. The article isn’t accurate. Abortion has always been a forgivable sin to the Catholic Church as long as you ask for forgiveness. The only sin in Catholicism that isn’t forgivable is suicide. This is just more smart PR from the current Pope, not a change.

I don’t think you understand Catholic doctrine as well as you think you do

What’s the alternative? Hating a person for one mess-up forever? I hope that if you have kids they never do anything wrong, because then you’re going to be in a tough spot: either keep loving them and be a ‘complete fuckface’ or stop loving them because they did something bad.

G&G is the best, and everybody should have a subscription. I don’t have anything else to contribute.

They certainly list Muslim and Muslim-leaning groups as hate groups. I’m just not familiar with any that would qualify as jihadist.

Thank you for your mature contribution to the conversation.

How many jihadist groups operate in the US?

I don’t know why this is so hard for people to grasp

They do happen now, you just don’t hear about them as much. There’s currently some serious persecution of Muslims at the hands of Christians going on in the CAR, but that’s not exactly headline news in the West.

You remember Kony? He’s explicitly Christian and a pretty bad dude

There are some similar apps floating around that will store your videos securely.

That was my take on it. Although maybe it’s just about horse violence. This is Texas after all

My man.
