I don’t know why, but the vertical slats on the new ones really look bad to me. Change the engine, add turbos, do whatever you want, just don’t touch the horizontal slats!

Indeed we are. Our main need is for interception, up north where the Russians frequently probe. Stealth seems inconsequential in such a scenario (the Russians are expecting a reception), whereas the Eagle’s speed, altitude, payload and radar seem most useful.
