I've always wondered that some of this is dependent on how Valve decides to use your item though. The Saharan Spy pack for instance was a first for Valve where they tied hats to have special stats and bonuses for the whole set. Naturally that made those items more popular to buyers than others.

Agreed. Some of the last shots are the only ones that seem "real" in any sense. A lot of the cosplay posted here on Kotaku is more photoshop art than anything it seems sometimes.
