He’s got the pipes. I just couldn’t believe this was the thing that took off. Even the non-dog whistle lyrics are incredibly amateurish. I think his voice/production are doing a LOT of heavy lifting on that song.

Ok, you’re right.
Guess we’ll have to disagree then. To steal another commenter’s analogy, I’m looking for a SW creator to build a sandcastle design I’ve never seen before.
Cosign Fire Island! Pretty funny and a low key great Pride & Prejudice adaptation.
[Execs see the crazy box office #’s from Barbenheimer]
Theater viewing provides a communal experience that cannot be recreated at home. My Barbie and Oppy theaters were packed and it was great. Also I’m 1000% more likely to pull out my phone at home on the couch than I would in a movie theater. (Never)
Star Wars isn’t really about messages, putting a subtle one like that in a SW movie is just reaching for too much.
it’s the sci fi/western/samurai space opera style that makes Star Wars Star Wars and Filoni does that better than pretty much anyone else.
Watched all of Clone Wars. Pretty good overall, although still a decent amount of filler. Also watched Rebels S1 but it’s too kiddie pool for my taste. I’m happy younger fans get their live action stuff but I wish they’d treat these other series as supplemental and not required reading.
I mean the movie still has to be good. Haven’t seen Bros so I can’t compare the two, but I don’t think we’d even be debating the merits of a movie “made by and for women” if the end product was garbage.
The amount of episodes I’m going to watch to get primed for Ahsoka is 0, because if the writing isn’t able to tell a complete story without all that homework, it’s a failure by the creative team.
a sense of purpose wrapped in a movie about one of the most famous toys on Earth
Every three months a new movie comes out that’s marketing campaign is like “FINALLY A MOVIE MADE BY A WOMAN”.
I think two things can be true. Everything you said, for sure. But anecdotally, I’ve had three different women in my life say that Barbie was refreshing because there are basically no movies made by and for women.
Reading Jed McKay’s recent run on Black Cat just makes me even angrier that Silver and Black got shelved. What better way to separate yourself from the other comic book movies than by lowering the stakes with a fun heist movie?
This is a fair point. Mirror villains are a proud tradition in comics. I just can’t believe we’re STILL doing it in the year 2023.
Fundamentally, they’re just starting on the back foot. You can’t have Spidey in them or the audience would just root for the hero. Out of necessity, Morb, Venom & Kraven get neutered to the point of becoming antagonists or antiheroes.
Venom aside, I continue to question the decision to make movies about Spider-Man villains - specifically ones whose powers are unique foils to Spider-Man - without Spider-Man in them.
The most sane response to all of this right here
I think it’s really fun and cool that modern live action SW requires entire articles debating the choice of four words in a trailer. Very sustainable strategy that won’t at all alienate casual fans, imo.
