Except what you don’t seem to understand is that he wasn’t charged for assault. The article even says all he did was snatch the flag away. He assaulted nobody. So your argument has just faceplanted.

First of all, nowhere in the article does it say they shouldn’t be allowed to be there. Second of all, it isn’t like someone attacked them.

Freedom of Speech doesn’t protect you from another US Citizen saying “I don’t like the thing you are saying.” It protects you from the government locking you in jail cause you said that thing. The guy who tackled the flag waving racist went to jail and paid a fine. There was no government action against the flag…

Once again, the Freedoms of Speech and Association (gathering in protest) are protections against government actors. They do not protect you from your job firing you for dumbass opinions or having a counter protestor Stinger Splash your ass because your flag, that represents a bunch of racist traitors, pisses him off.

Waving a confederate flag is a figurative punch in the face. If you wave it, you should expect (and probably are hoping for) blowback.

I understand what you are saying, but I’d imagine that to a black person, a white guy waving the Confederate flag is a message of “I wish that you black people were once again property of white people.”
