Yeah, I remember when people would say “all I want my cell phone to do is make calls,” and now with smartphones calls are secondary (or less). I doubt if watches will get to that point, but you never know...

“Kinks” heh.

There is a lot of social engineering someone could do with your contacts, especially if the callerID shows that any calls or texts are coming from your phone. There’s the cliche texts claiming an emergency and asking for money. Though you might not fall for it, can you really say that no one on your contact list will

Most insurance will specifically exclude earthquakes (you’d have to read the terms to see if it includes tsunami or other collateral damage or not). You’d need to get actual earthquake insurance, which is quite expensive. I believe the same goes for flood insurance if you live in a floodplain.

Yeah, SmartThings might be a hub, but it’s more cloud controlled, much the same as Nest/Dropcam- there’s not enough smarts on it for scripting or anything. I don’t know about simeple on/off commands. And what do you think of the owners of SmartThings- Samsung- as a company?

I’m pretty sure lead is opaque to that part of the spectrum.

Another review I read showed a small status LCD on the top. You can see it in the Wired review mentioned here. I’m not sure why the one in this review didn’t have it.

Also, is there any way to externally power it? Auto-on with external power?

Whistleblowers are okay so long as they’re not embarrassing this administration. How fast do you think he’d be outed and charged if this were a government agency instead of a private company?
