Most insurance will specifically exclude earthquakes (you’d have to read the terms to see if it includes tsunami or other collateral damage or not). You’d need to get actual earthquake insurance, which is quite expensive. I believe the same goes for flood insurance if you live in a floodplain.

Yeah, SmartThings might be a hub, but it’s more cloud controlled, much the same as Nest/Dropcam- there’s not enough smarts on it for scripting or anything. I don’t know about simeple on/off commands. And what do you think of the owners of SmartThings- Samsung- as a company?
