nah, the women wear the short tops to show off their abs. It’s Sexy Mirror Universe.

There’s a big difference between a fuzzy, low-bandwidth hologram that’s actually just the image of a real person, and the “holograms” from the later shows that are fully corporeal, and sometimes capable of independent thought.
I’m sure we’ll see plenty of homophobic remarks about this show as well when the gay officer is shown with his partner, whenever that is.
I like how the klingons’ motivation is fear of losing their identity. VI is one of my favorite Trek movies and I really connect with that idea. It gives them a depth when they could have just been the ugly, violent bad guys.
I hope we see Ensign Daft Punk again.
Oh, how glorious to—for once—not be penalized for being a non-American viewer. We’re getting all of Discovery via Netflix with weekly episodes getting upped a few hours after they show up on CBS’ portal.
The technology isn’t even necessarily more advanced. I’m not sure they actually did anything that the TOS crew couldn’t. It’s just that it LOOKS more advanced because we have better effects tech and production values now, which strikes me as a silly complaint. “This should all look as shitty as the ‘60s forever,…
Hard to judge the ensemble thing on one episode. DS9 first episode was almost entirely about Sisko, and yet it had a lot of episodes like “Improbable Cause/The Die Is Cast” or “Valiant” that focus on characters who aren’t even part of the main cast.
I’m shocked that I like both equally. I can’t stand Seth McFarlane and Family Guy but Orville hews just close enough to straight Trek with a few gags that I’m enjoying it (for now), ST:D is closer to TV Trek than Pine Movie Trek.
It’s a good time to be a nerd who spent way too much time drawing ships that could fit in…
ZACK! I’m so excited that you’re the one reviewing this. There’s nobody else I’d rather read.
I hope both shows do really well. There is enough love in our hearts for many Stars Trek.
How many admirals does Starfleet have, anyway? We must have met them all in the Next Generation timeline, and a bigger bunch of traitors, dimwits and incompetents has never been seen until Trump was elected.
I don’t know why they didn’t air it as a tv movie special prequel to st discovery, since well, we don’t even see the titular ship in it. I think it would have made a lot more promotional sense. You sell it as a self contained 2 hours event, but it ends with a cliffhanger and a promo for the actual series.
Good premiere! What is the proper name for “Officer Daft Punk” on the bridge?
You’re really squeezing any sort of subtlety out of it. I would hope it’s a little more complicated than “she gets out of jail = is good and best and right always.”
You just made me realize we’re going to be hearing about Worf’s dad before all is said and done (the timing lines up). Hopefully they’re subtle about it, though.
I am old enough to remember when people said this about TNG. Star Trek has always messed with “canon” and its own continuity.
That was pretty good. I would rank it as the second best Star Trek series premiere behind DS9.
I like the idea of the different Klingon Houses having their own style and ships. I wonder how else they’ll develop that idea. Maybe they’ll have different technology, diplomatic relations with other races, culture and values, etc. And I’d love to see the Houses from the other shows like Chang, Kor, and maybe Mogh and…
Well hot damn, i really enjoyed the first two episodes. I was always cautiously optimistic, but this exceeded my expectations.
